i have somone that will cut and weld a longer cahin case for my yamaha if i have that longer case and longer chain is there any thing else that needs to be modified. im pretty good with a tourch and welder. just cut and weld the new drive shaft in place or an i missing somthing. i have never done one of these before so any information would be helpful.

IMO the cut and weld rolled chain case method has been taken over by the method that moves the jackshaft from above to below the tunnel deck. You can purchase the chaincase modification from several mountain specialists and the template for mounting and cutting is also available, total cost about $100. If you roll your chaincase there is good news and bad. The good news is that you will have a slightly improved attack angle, headframe loadup is reduced and you can run larger diameter drivers. The bad news is that the axle is more vulnerable to damage from rocks etc., you loose the stock parking brake and the sled's high speed handling is compromised. Honestly, most rolled chaincases are on extreme mountain sleds that use it to reduce head frame loading. The cut and weld method drops the axle down and back and leaves the jackshaft in the stock position. There is another similar method of moving the drive axle position that does not use a chain or chaincase. It is marketed by Crazy Mountain Extreme and uses a belt similar to the belt on a blower. It reduces weight by 12 lbs and costs a modest $2200. Very trick. You can have a look at www.crazymtn.com. I have been in this shop. Unbeleivable.

Oh no, here comes the belt debate.

I wish I had the money for that. Those guys make some filthy sick sleds.
