Hey guys my dad has a 98 sx 700 that is slightly modded just like pipes and all that good stuff. He was thinking of gearing it down whats the max you can gear it down while keeping the stock chain? And what do you guys reccomend for gearing looking to gain more accel and loose a little top.

Don,t go under 22/40. Some guys here in my area actually gear em up to 24/40.
 
Unless you are mountain riding at 10k elevation that gearing is wayyyy to low for a piped 700 at 0-3k elevation. I ran 23/40 on a piped ported 700mm wi 9 tooth drivers at 2k elevation & it worked perfect.
