Oil Pump Change

Is there anything special that I need to know about changing the oil pump in a 98 vmax 500? Shoud I premix some oil in the fuel tank on the first run after I replace it? The current pump I'm pretty sure is shot. I can run about 120 miles and the low oil light comes on. I think it comes on once 2 quarts have been used and there's .5 quart of oil left in the tank.

I am not sure your pump is shot.

I've heard once they fail, they continuously pump oil at the wide open throttle setting. I've checked the oil pump cable and it is set correctly. It just started to use alot from the beginning of last year. I had the same problem with a 97 vmax 600 I had but the oil pump did have a recall. Once it was changed, oil consumption was back to normal from when I first bought it.

wouldnt hurt to run mix 1st tank after changing pump or motor removal. cheap insurance against air bubbles in the lines.
