Munising to Host Pro Ice Drags
The ice on the Munising bay will heat up on Saturday, March 6th, as the top Professional Snowmobile Ice Drag Racers from throughout the Midwest will be racing in side-by-side action. The races will be sanctioned by the Mid America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers Circuit, commonly known as the MASTERS.
Drag Racers will be competing in 4 different divisions; Stock, Improved Stock, Modified, and Vintage. Each Division will have different classes depending upon engine size. The racers will compete on a 660 foot ice surface. The MASTERS Circuit also has a 120cc class for children from 5 to 9 years old.
“With the speeds these machines will be going, our promoter, Magnum Force Racing, will make sure that the sleds have ample ‘shut down’ room,” stated MASTERS Racing President, Skip Schulz.
This will be the only Ice Race of the season for the MASTERS Circuit, and will also be the final event of the season for the 15 year-old sanctioning race circuit. The MASTERS ran the Winternationals Hillclimb in South Range, along with the Sidnaw (MI) Snow Drags.
“Racing on ice is a whole different ‘can of worms.’ I don’t know if those that did so well on snow in Sidnaw will be the favorites on ice in Munising,” commented Schulz.
The drivers will be competing for a Cash Purse of over $2000.00, based on 80 entries. According to the MASTERS, the first 14 drivers in each class are automatically entered to compete. To pre-register go to: www.mastersracing.net.
