So, my buddy bought a 2000 SXR 500 yesterday, and it turns out is used to be a race sled.
Bottom end is destroyed, but, upon further inspection, found that it has the stock bottom end, with jugs from a 1994 600 that have been bored and ported.
Stock Piston size for a 500 is 68mm, this one is 79.28mm. The guy was running a (1997 and up) 500 head, that had been relieved for the larger piston as well.
We are trying to figure out what application this piston would have been from.
The motor would end up about 670cc, but I have never heard of a 670 big bore before anywhere.p1.jpg
 

sounds close to what high altitude engineering used to put together. Could just be a one off kit though.
 
So, found out what they were.
Was a Wiseco piston made specially for Taos Cycle in New Mexico, back in 1993.
They are the only ones that used them, hard to figure out why such an odd bore size though ...
