Hi,

Bought my second SRX 700 this spring as a nostalgia project. Had a -98 many years ago and it always kept its spot in my heart :) They are getting few and far apart these days, especially the ones in decent condition. I do not live in the northern parts of Sweden and often if one came out for sale it was gone before I had time to go there and buy it.

This one I found at a friend of a friend who really wasn’t planning to sell it. But he had also bought an -02 that was in pretty bad shape but he wanted an -02 and he finally decided to sell the -01 to finance the rebuild of the 02.

It was in decent shape, well used but fully working and looking pretty nice. I really have no clue of the milage, the meter currently says 4000km (2500 miles) but it has been replaced at some point and the condition says it has been around a fair amount more than that. It has the Viper/SXR long travel suspension both front and in the skid and it has Ohlins in the front. It has also been fitted with reverse.

I got it for the equal of about $2,400 and it was a hard bargain since he really didn’t want to sell it. Once I got it home I went through it more in detail and started to make a list of parts to get, this is the complete list:

Sportech Cobra windshield
Sparkplugs NGK BR9EYA
Advant-Edge helix 48/40
CA-PRO RZ’s with 6" shaper runners

Apart from this I also had the exhaust pipes, trailing arms and control arms sand blasted and the later powder coated silver. The exhaust pipes got a heat treatment with high temp paint and the heat shields got a mild polish. The stabilizer bar was missing but I got one with the sled on the side, it's now on the sled but it was a pain in the butt to install. Lot's of rivets to remove and put back. I also flushed and replaced the coolant once I was at it replacing the thermostat.

All this added up to about $2,000, I had not expected that when I started but once I got going I decided to see it through. Next season I’ll have a look at pistons and/or rings as well as a new track. For the moment I decided I had spent enough.

I got a lot of help from a fellow member her on TY sourcing the parts and send them to me :)

I'll post some pics soon

So, more or less finished  I'm pretty pleased how it turned out ;)! In all honesty it might look a bit better in these pics than IRL but even so, very nice I think. Unfortunately I'm going in for a knee surgery (old sled injury) on the 9th of January so most of the season will be gone this year but I hope fore a few trips up north in mid to late Mars at least.

What do you guys think?

looks pretty good. I have seen that a few dozen times as per the pic of the thermostat!!!

Thank's ;)!

I had no idea it was that bad, as I was going to replace the coolant I thought I'd replace the thermostat since I figured it had never been replaced and maybe a bit worn, so it was more of a lucky shot :)
