99 vmax sx carb questions

a buddy has his 99 600 vmax sx here and I'm helping him go through it. I noticed while cleaning the carbs that the washer in the pilot hole between the little spring and the rubber is missing. is this something integral to the carb? It was running when we got it to my garage. Just wondering if it is needed.

The washers allow the pressures of the spring to be evenly applyed to the O ring for proper sealing, and should be replaced.
