9000 rpm...

I'm going to go heavier in both holes with the rivets.
Will let you know the outcome.
Today, took out my stock 2002 viper with bender silencer, against the 1997 700 sx with bender silencer and 9000 rpm.
Raced back and forth accross a flat field many times, Viper hit 106 mph, and the 700 sx edged it out every time by about a sled length. Maybe I just got a ringer ?? Lol...

im in the same boat right now, I freed up a few ponies with a holtzman tempafloe and im also hittint 9 or 91 and im wondering the most efficient way to use these few ponies.
I guess unwrapping the helix a few degrees has only small improvments on wot and I was hoping not to lose the awesome backshift the v max is now . what do you gurus think the logical step would be

PS im trying to finish my carb tune, my needles didn't come with shims. where does a guy source needle shims and theinbetween size main jets some of the Yamaha applications call for. 1m not getting a consistent plug reading all three are mabe too far apart to be able catch it with just shims. may have to rejet some carbs

sx was always off on the clutching with the 8ch belt a lot would over rev, then when the 8dn came out most all would because the belt compound is not as sticky as the 8ch, this let it over rev. Yamaha put out a service bulletin to add heaver rivets to the weights for the 8dn belt. more then likely the 8ch was getting glazed and slipping and then when you threw on 8dn it also slips and over revs because you need more primary clutch weight. the 8ch clutch weights are something to be desired for like cat fishing, never liked them. try a set of 8dn-10 in a sx they are more aggressive and clamp the belt well.

What rivets would we put in the 8dn weights. From a bulletin from Yamaha, it gives the instructions on how to switch a 97 sx from an 8ch belt to an 8dn belt. It says to use the 8ch weights and add 13.9 rivets in each of the holes and change the rollers also to 8cr 14.5mm.

Would like to know that as well !
I think I have some 8DN's laying around..
My 700 is also doing the same thing.
