Xtc 600

Well. Back on the XTC.
Had alot of track noise last winter, and figured out the stock drivers moved outward on the axel. Have a new axel that measures perfect for wheel spacing, gonna swap it out. This one is the newer style that has the wheels clamped on the axel, and outer locks.

Well, this 1 year old bearing gave me about a 2 hour fight today, would move freely on the shaft about a 1/8", and that was it, and it was all I could do to turn the gear puller to get it off.

Here is why I pulled the drive axel. Wheels decided they would rather go where they feel like...
Top pic is the new, correctly spaced axel.

All put back together.
Next morning saw a small puddle of oil under the sled.
Thought maybe chaincase was leaking, but turned out to be two stroke oil.
Took carbs off and motor mount off above the oil pump. One line had oil on it.
Pulled the line off that went from oil pump to fuel pump. Couldn’t see a problem. Blew though it and saw a small pinhole up by where it connected to the oil pump. Cut some off and reconnected. Seems to have fixed problem.

Next time you replace the axle bearing, add part # 8FN-47377-00-00 to it. It’s a small plastic deflector that Yamaha has added to later models that utilize the same bearing. It helps keep water/snow/ice away from the inner bearing seal, thus reducing moisture intrusion into the bearing and improving life.

Nice looking sled!
