So this weekend my dad decided to give me his 1997 Mountain Max 600 with the smart carb. The machine has been sitting for about 2 years and before hand it was used rarely. It’s got about 3500 km on it and a new motor at 3000 on account of running it too lean. It is very difficult to start when it’s cold and when I finally did get it running by dumping gas down the air box it back fires a few times and occasionally it would get fuel regardless of how much throttle you give it. I was wondering if anyone here knows where I should start with a full tune up and any problem areas I should focus on. It’s sat in heated storage for the 22 years my dad owned it and usually has been extremely well cared for. Thank you for any tips you guys may have! I’m relatively mechanically enclined so I can do most things.
Thanks for any input, Aaron

It will, if done correctly.
Pay attention to being able to see through the jets, especially the pilots, I also like to replace the small o-rings on the needle and seat assembly, as they seem to shrink up over time.
