Alrighty guys getting ready to do some clutch rebuilding. Any tips or tricks. Got my bushings and wear parts all together assuming I should pick up new springs as well. Anything else I'm missing? Any help is always appreciated. It's all for my 96 vmax 600 xt. I need to ride.

I use the comet lube on mine... Do Not grease anything in a clutch! Bad things happen when you do...Yep new springs would be great both primary and secondary. Ramp shoes. There is one spot on the secondary that gets just a touch of normal grease... I dont shim for off set on the 96.. I put anti sieze on the jack shaft and let the secondary float on the shaft. Other than that use a new belt set the secondary shims and ride it like you stole it...

A descent coating on the primary & secondary covers where the springs get seated. I'm unsure if it helps w/ spring bind...... but certainly can't hurt either.
I've even used very thin Grafoil.

I would suggest using only Yamaha parts. I have tried aftermarket kits, the large bushings didn't fit and the small one fell apart. The slider material felt cheap too.
Do you have a tool to remove the Primary spider?
If the weights have wear spots they can be re-ground.
I have never replaced the springs on either of my Vmax's and my 96XT hit 10,000 miles this winter.

Have you looked at the info in the tech section? Some very helpful clutch stuff:

Here is an old thread where I have pictures of the tools I used to rebuild my clutches.
