Just finished restoring an old SRX 440 but for some reason it's only running on 1 cylinder, once the rpm's get to about 5000 the second cylinder kicks in, soon as you back off the throttle it kicks out again. Anyone ever run into this? Has great spark, kinda seems like a carb/fuel issue

A little background, SRX is a 1980 with a 1979 engine and 1978 36mm carbs and stock 1980 airbox. SRX was all in pieces when we bought it.
-fresh nickasil plated cylinders, new pistons
-new coil and Fireplug CDI [1980 flywheel and stator]
-new fuel pump and squeaky clean carburetors with new O-rings on power-jet carb jets

Any thoughts would sure be appreciated

Thinking I'll pull the carb apart again and triple check that the passageway above the pilot jet is clear. Other than that I'm thinking possibly the crank seal?

Yes I did! One of the carbs that came with the SRX had the wrong needle jet installed in it creating a super rich condition on that cylinder. Always interesting when you aquire a snowmobile that's been taken apart and stored in boxes for 20 years :(
