Anyone still running 500-600 twins?

I really like my 500 twin in the venture 500. I did few of the mods that are mentioned here, really woke up the sled, and I still have to do the headgasket mod.
Also, I clutched it with heelclickers, also helped alot.
 

My black XTC was originally a 600 twin. Been through every mod possible with that thing since I bought it new.
Finally swapped in the Mr. Viper redhead.
But still have the 600 complete sitting in my garage. Working on getting a 600 SX cheap, putting my ported 600 in that chassis with twin pipes. Was never able to get the clutching close on that before, but I have learned a lot on this site, so want to give it another shot.
 
I found a 1997 with 4000 miles w/Ohlins, for $300. Says it running, but looks like it’s been sitting outside for years.
So, I will replace the hood, seat, windshield, powder coat front suspension ect.
I have all parts on hand, so should go pretty quick.
 
Nice, post pics. I may be able to help with the clutching as many others on this site, depending on what kind of clutching you want to do
 
You're in luck! I have tinkered with heelclicker for a twin for a couple of years now. Keep us posted with what set up you go for with the heelclickers.
 
This is an interesting discussion. Obviously gradually our proactions are being phased out with the passing of time. Around my area 500 and 600 liquid twins are rare. None of the seem to survive long enough.... You do find them for sale but often blown up. The Triples on the other hand are much more common and are still running around with 20 000 and 30 000+ kms....Me and my little brother are avoiding building anything with l/c twins because of this reason...
 
I know twins are worse in pretty much every respect, but have you experienced that rush in the powerband? Plus it's a little lighter and runs on lower rpm.
 
Yes I have but it's been over 10 years ago and I wasn't as proaction experienced then. All I remember is it wasn't as smooth as our at the time families 99 600 triple Venture. I would love to try a properly set up 500 or 600 twin again and enjoy a refreshed experience / opinion on them, but like I already mentioned, they are terribly rare to come by around here. I don't know anyone that owns one that' still up and running.

While we are on the subject of twins.

My brother recently baught a complete 1997-1998 ??? Vmax xt 600. We basically only baught it for its streight chassis and what ever other usable parts. We're using it to built a 600 triple, and 136 ripsaw sled.

Anyways

I was under the impression it's 600 twin was toast, but my brother informed me this 6000 km motor is over all in solid, potentially usable shape. That said aside from obvious damage from a past broken ring. This thread has inspired me to have some interest in preserving this little 600 twin...

I am actually looking for some clutch components for my sons 98 XTC 600 to wake it up a bit. Was looking for a complete clutch kit but havent found anything. After reading I am interested in trying what Turk said worked great on these. Really dont know where to find any of the components though. Fun little sleds.

Though I don't have any experience with the L/C twins , I found this thread to be very interesting and informative on this subject.

And that explains operating at 8600 for years, and losing many pistons. Of course, I think mine were all from detonation.
Wonder if they tried to cure things with the 1997 and up?
 
Things look promising for our little 600 twin.

Me and my brother did a close inspection of our little 600 twin yesterday..... Overall the engine is in great shape and shows a good bit of promise. Cylinders are in excellent condition, pistons are good, big and small end bearings are all tight!!! Basically only needs a replacement head, and maybe rings.
