A guy on facebook tipped me that you can shorten a snowmobile chain. Can I do that to a 70l chain for a sx? How do I do that and is the result durable?

Just file off the pin(link) head or buck. If the pin/link head or buck is up against the chain link that will be removed.... just grind off the head or buck. Because if you go too far it doesn't matter anyway ..... you are throwing that chain segment away anyhow.
I looked at it again, I would have to have a spare pin to put it together again, which I don't have.

As much as this is an interesting idea, the thought of a catastrophic chain failure at high speed is kinda a turn off...
