1991 Phazer 2 lower chain case gear

I am changing the track in my old Phazer that my Daughter drives around the yard. When I was taking the gears and chain off, I noticed the lower gear seems to float a little bit on the drive shaft. Looking at the parts diagram it looks like everything is just as it should be. At first I thought there must be a shim or washer missing. I would say it has about an 1/8 of an inch of lateral movement on the drive shaft. Does anyone know if that is normal? The top gear doesn't have any movement in it.

Yes they are supposed to float like that.

Thank you. That makes me feel better. It does snug up as the chain it tightened. But none the less, it is better to ask the question right now while I have everything apart. I appreciate the help.
