so is it common for the reed stoppers to crack on these machines? i found my stoppers 2cracks away from letting go.....

I had all 6 stoppers crack on me, never been notched. The new set I ordered for mine are stainless steel, stronger than the original galvanized steel stoppers. It's a good idea to pull the reeds out and inspect them anytime you do a carb cleaning.

You can get them through Yamaha. As far as I know, the stainless ones are just an updated replacement for the galvinized stoppers. part number 4DA-13616-00-00. that part number should work for all the twins and triples from 97-06

Great. Thanx. I've heard of this problem on a couple occasions, and I'm new to sleds/Yamaha. Sounds like it should have been a factory recall from Yamaha back in the day. Are they fairly pricy?

I got mine through partzilla.com, $3.95 each. You're right.... should have been a recall, mine were just barely hanging there ready to be sucked into the cyl. I replaced them about 3 years ago and notched them, they still look great.

I know this is not exactly related to the thread topic, but would it be worth it to notch the stainless stoppers AND have reed spacers? I ordered the spacers from ebay. Just wondering if I should do anything else while I have the reeds out.

I am not setting out to start something, but I was looking at this roudyroy1. I had the same question last time I had my motor apart. Turns out even with spacers a little bit of the stopper is still visible looking down from the Top with the cylinder removed. Meaning it is still restricting air flow with the spacers, without the notch. I will see if I still have the picture. I have spacers, and did the notch.

i guess it couldn't hurt, but i thought if you were running thick enough spacers they would be backed right out of the A/F mixture path.

i think the bender ones are 6.3mm or something, the ones i made are 7mm+ gaskets. maybe that's why i never saw them in the ports?

I need help quick! I'm at the Yammy dealer and gave him the part number 4DA-13616-00-00, and he says that it's been replaced by 8dj-13616-0-00. The problem is, he says that he doesn't know if they're stainless and says that he can't return them if I order them and they're not stainless. Ugh! Do any of u guys know?

That cant be right, I looked up that part number on partzilla and nothing came up, I added an extra 0 and it shows the stoppers for the 99-01 pazer 500's and venture 500. Do u have a 500 fan? I also looked up the 4DA-13616-00-00 and it's showing the stoppers for the triples.

I just ordered mine with that part # and herd nothing about them being stainless or not,or a replacment #

Yes, I forgot the extra 0. If you goggle the old part number, lots of sites will say that it was replaced by this new number. Even when the guy at the dealership typed it in, it said that it was replaced by the new number, 8DJ-13616-00-00.
