Just bought this off a guy for $1200. Has reverse and E start. 8800kms.
No spark at any of plugs.
Where should I start looking ? He says he took fuel tank off to clean and then wouldnt start. E bpought a spare CDI for it, he is mailing me this part this week.
TORS has been jumped.
Are ther any fuses that could be blown that would stop it from sparking ?
Are the stators, CDIs or pick up coils known to be an issue ?
Thanks

On the left side of the steering gate frame, there is a ground wire attached with a bolt. Maybe when taking the tank off this wire was broken or knocked off... The steering gate is the tube steel frame that loops over the tank.

2000 sxr stupped no spark
Well guys searched the forum. Cleaned up flywheel as suggested as it was pretty rusted. No luck still no spark. Tested Stator as per posted pecs. 2 were good but the one coil that was suppose to be around 410ohms was 810 ohms. Tested a buddies sled(same year 700) and his stator tested good.
ordered new stator this week and installed, no change. Tested stop/kill switch on handle bar. TORS switch has been bypassed already at carbs. Cleaned all grounds to chassis. Tested CDI on friends sled and it good. Tested coils, all 3 three were around same specs as his. Checked all electrical connections. Good.
tonight removed complete harness from sled. Inspected where it ran under engine and other some electrical tape unwrapping see no runbs etc. ERven gave all wires a good tug to see if plastic casing was holding wire together.
Ive been a Heavy equipment mechanic for 30 for years and I am stumped. Going to start testing wires through harness 1 by 1 tomorrow..
Anything I might have forgot ? I have carbs. seat, gas tank removed as well as exhaust.
Could rectifier or voltage regulator stop unit from having spark ? When cranking over with electric starter should headlights start to light up ? Frustrated to say the least. Maybe ti,e to take to dealer ?
Thanks Werner

Darn Tootin'
Go back through all of the testing, you are missing something. Isolate each essential component and test. Anything non-essential either disconnect or jumper (depending on continuity for run). These are really simple units so don't be tricked into thinking it is some magic thing. Most dealer techs are not very good at electrical stuff, so I wouldn't mess with that. Get the schematic in front of you and simplify it to the bare essentials for creating spark. Carefully walk through the ignition circuit. Do not overlook the grounds.

If you had a bad voltage reg/rectifier could that prevent unit from having spark ?
There is a relay above the left footwell that will stop it from starting sometime too.
