Somehow, I ended up"living" the name of this forum.
As of Friday, all of my sleds are Yamahas. I traded a couple of my other brand sleds for two newer Yamahas, and I still have my '78 ET250 and my recently acquired 1980 ET340D. The ET340 had a frozen carb, but I got that all straightened out and repaired one of the posts that holds the float pin with JB Weld. With any luck, I should have it running sometime this weekend. I'm hoping that I don't have to bleed the Autolube lines, etc., to get things running. I never used this system before, so I'm not sure what might need to be done. The ET250 had all of that removed and I just mix the fuel for it.
Newer sleds are '05 Yamaha RS90 Vector and a '09 Yamaha Apex GT1000. Both have electric start and reverse, which is what I needed. Very nice sleds, and now, being thrust into the 21st century with these newer ones, I'm finding that they are a bit scarier than my 40 year old sleds...... speed-wise. You young bucks are used to zipping along at WOT, but I've never traveled as fast as these sleds will go, without being buckled into the enclosed cockpit of a car surrounded by tons of metal. Kind of unnerving to watch the ground fly past your body with only inches of air separating you from it. Looking forward to being a little scared this winter!!

Yamahas are the only way to go!
Ding
Darn Tootin'
Gets even scarier when significant distance appears between you and the ground at those speeds

Yup, when your eyeballs start bouncing around you need to back off the throttle a bit! Hahaha!

Like I said..... I'm sort of looking forward to this winter a little more than usual. The power of these sleds is incredible compared to what I'm used to. In fact, I'm going to place two 20' sections of 36" corrugated pipe into a ditch that divides my farm into two sections, to form a couple of bridges. That way, I can make a complete loop around my 52 1/2 acres, and that will include a huge hill with trails behind it, and approximately 2000' of a level straightaway. Gonna be an interesting winter if we get some decent snow again!!
