What happened to the viper hp from 02 to 03-04? I heard that the 02 was 122 hp plus ram air and the 03's and 04's were only like 115? What happened?
Cannot se anything in the 03 update book that would suggest such a loss of power.... And one more thing, could you make a single piped viper a 127 hp sled? I have a snowtech from dec 2001, with the stage tuning of the viper and bender claims 127,7 hp with their single pipe. Now, in the real world, could this be done with head mod, port polish, reeds, maybe porting and the pipe or is it out of the question?

I guess if you start with the stock claimed 122-23 hp at speed with the induction and add the Bender single pipe which is said to be good for about 4 hp, you would end up at around 127. Seems realistic to me. Of course, why just do the single pipe when the triples get you sooooo much more!

tripple pipe will add 18 to 23 horses!
Yup
For the cash, go with the Triples. I say mine is a solid 140+

The only big gain you can get is triple pipes. Keep in mind there is not only less mileage with pipes, the Viper's jetting forgiveness narrows up as most sleds do. EGT's are a good idea, I know from experience. srxspec and I just talked about the gains available from OTHER than piping. With some head squish, a SRX basegasket and a Bender single you can get about 6HP. This is from his testing and experience. I haven't talked with anyone that's tried porting a stocker. I've done it to many other Yammies I've owned, some gained alot, some not.
My thought is not to make it an all out racer, but a trail sled with slightly more power and slightly lower weight. I care for the MPG too.

Your #1 performance shop!
Different heads and base gasket would help with the cooling issues that even some stockers have problems with, I'd even recommend the rear heat exchanger. You could also tighten up the squish as well then and pickup 1-2 hp there. I don't know if I'd recommend doing much porting, but it never hurts to clean things up a little bit. The Bender single & can is said to add some midrange punch but not sure how much you'd actually pickup on top. You would shave off a claimed 14 lbs from stock with the combo though and it won't hurt the mileage. I'd recommend getting the pipe ceramic coated though to hold the heat in a little better (stock pipe has heat shield while Bender doesn't have the shield). A guy could throw on a set of reeds and pickup some throttle response (probably not any HP at all). Just some ideas.

Triples all the way!!! I don't know about the 18-23 HP, everything I've read was at least 25HP and bender has Dynoed theirs at 30 HP!! I have them it definately feels like the 25 to 30 hp range. I've put 350 miles on so far with them and they work awesome. Temperature ranges were from -6 to 30f and no problems.
