I'm putting together a 2000 srx drag sled. Haucks say I need to find a race cdi but I've been told u can run a viper cdi on it. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

the viper cdi will not plug into a 2000 srx, youd need to use a 2001 wire harness. The 2000 is a 1 year only wire plugs on the cdi box,so yes, hauck is right. a race cdi for a 2000 only will be hard to find. You might be better off to use a offset keyway and then move the ign pick up a bit as well to gain timing if its a race only sled.

depending on what pipes your going to run, the viper cdi will hurt the sled not help it, the viper box has way too much timing in it for a srx unless your turning it over 10,000rpm.

race boxes for a 2000 are rarer than hens teeth. i found one for mine pure luck. mine came out of bender racing in the srx grass heyday. besides like posted you have wrong harness for viper setup. also don,t replace your harness and buy a factory race srx cdi folklore for $600 when in fact its a 2002 viper box. opinions are different if they work. mine did on my 02 srx on grass. but i want to dyno one. now i did see a hp gain in a red head sxr 2001 with viper cdi on the dyno. but posted, their are ways to add timing. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Thanks for the input. I'm running the hauck pipes so it's running 10000 rpms. Think I'll change it over to a 2001 harness and put a 2002 viper cdi in it. Does anybody know if you have to change all of the harnesses or just the main cdi harness?

change the whole harness, the stator wiring/ connection were all the same 00-01-02, but you will need to change harness for viper box plug. find a box from a 02 viper. prefix 8ek. 3:16 (yammie tony)
