Hey guys. I have had an srx 700 now for a couple seasons and now want to start a stock carbed cpr piped 780 project. First off would I have to get the crank welded, if so, Im guessing I would be better off buying a brand new (srx or viper) one?? What rpm are the 780 kits from cpr, with cpr pipes supposed to be clutched for and if I were to use a set of AAEN pipes what would that rpm be?? Im not looking to race the sled but want a really stout trail monster, the SRX stock with a good clutch kit a is a pretty fast and reliable but I want something that is a little faster, so I can gear it taller but still retain the pull of the 'ol girl. What do you guys think??

I'm sure one of the more experienced guys will chime in. Pretty slow on here in the summer time though. I see your in Cambridge...I'm in fergus.

Yup, puslinch to be exact, there are a few of us that ride between the twin lakes and quarry. Why is the srx for sale? and ya Im hoping for one of the more experienced guys to chime in. Im not in a rush...still a few months b4 the snow falls again. I think I have a pretty good idea of what the answers MAY be but there, without a doubt, very experienced people with tech info on this forum. What you riding now??

Right on! Sellin the srx because I want something with more suspension. We normally do 300-400km days and I'm beat to shit at the end of the day if the trails are bad. Now when the trails are good, it's a blast to ride! I'm probably going to buy a new viper or 1200 4tec renegade or the enduro with the air ride! Definitely a 4 stroke whatever I buy.

Right now I'm building a 540 XLV off trail sled and taking a break from trail riding for a bit.

Money must not be much of an object for you. I called Jeff about 3 yrs ago and inquired about the very same mods you are talking about. If memory serves, the 780 install was about $2200 and Jeff was claiming about 162ish hp. For $3000 you could also have the carbs bored and the timing altered and have about 170 hp with stock pipes. A new set of bender pipes is about $1300 (I think). When all is said and done, you will certainly have one hot machine but, the total cost is far more than what most srx's are worth these days. Alot of dough for not much resale value down the road if it should ever come to that.

Yes macheater is right. It's not cheap and you'll have more into it than it's worth if you build from scratch. I know, I have 2 780 srx's. But they are so much fun. And if you can find one used it saves a ton of dough. Just happens I have 2 that can be had
