Exhaust gasket on header pipe

I am replacing the exhaust gasket for the header pipe & would like to know which side of the gasket goes towards the engine, the copper side or the black side. Called 2 dealers & got 2 different answers.

I would think copper toward the exhaust header side, but not certain.

I put the copper on engine side.

After looking at the hole pattern you can only put the copper side to the exhaust header. If you try & put the copper side to the engine side the holes don't line up.

Makes sense since the exhaust side would be hotter.
