Any thoughts, comments, or info? Just got one, I see it has a torque converter and a 2 speed trans, really don't know anything about them, how rare are they?

Sorry Bob , hadn't been here for a week and answered on the other site... for any others , it should be a 74 , were resold possibly in 1975 as well
but the same 74 decals.. the chassis seems to be the same as the 73 EW643 with the wide track and rear fuel tank..
I have 1 good one , scrapped one , aware of a couple more on the internet , No one at Yamaha has offered to find out any build numbers for
the fluid drives as the info is on microfiche in Japan , maybe. Since they were not racers, no one has kept track of them over the years.
I only have ever found one drive that leaked a bit. lots of broken shifter supports on 15" models from people trying to force them into gear.
I finally stripped one apart just to see what is inside, as people kept asking me about them.

Alrighty, got started today on a few things. Engines out, pretty much stripped down to tunnel for a quick repaint, looks like mostly all surface rust, shouldn't need to much Will be slowed down by a hip replacement deal in Oct, but looking for some parts, Windshield, one wheel for the rear skid, the one with the little yamaha center section. ALso need hood vent

I wish you were closer ... a good louver is the hardest to find ,,, I will check but expect it is the same size as the narrow sleds in which case
the 76 and 77 GP 440 used a black version to allow air in to cool the belt... drilling the rivet on top side almost always burns a hole in the plastic
so I have been trying to cut rivet off inside hood instead
Need a bogie wheel or an idler wheel ??? I also need to check with a cotton tape if the windshield patterns are the same as narrow track
as my 74 came with a good one and the 73 EW has a good tall one.
Some are black plastic bogie and some are metal with black plastic cap

Things I found out over the weekend .. both my wide tracks came with good louvers and windshields ,,, so I never measured them...
The louver is wider than narrow track versions by about 1/2" ... 73 EW of 74/75 TW only....
Windshield has same pattern of screws near hood centre ,,, but wraps around edge further by about an inch per side..
For a show sled you will want a proper sized windshield . , other wise drill a few holes and mount a narrow track
version with its rubber moulding which holds the screws... a smidgeon shorter , .. it will leave two exposed holes in hood
but the redrilled ones will be covered if you find a proper windshield .
Ron
I didn't test to see if a narrow version would fall through the hole in hood or could be riveted on... I don't think I every had
good ones on my two scrapped machines...

Hey Ron, Running into a problem, not sure how serious. Have most of the chassis stripped down of parts. Having a very hard time getting the chaincase housing off. Bolts out, chain and gear off, but it seems to be stuck on a bearing or something. Decided to take other side apart to free up the drive axle. Here's the problem, went to brake loose the big nut, just using 1/2 ratchet by hand and just shuttered the front driver into pieces. Not sure if that's a hard or impossible part to find
