I have gotten about 1 inch crack on the right hole of the rear suspension front mount (mountain max 700 2001), someone had forgotten to install the outside braces there. Now what, do I just put the braces on and ride on or do I have to repair it somehow? I see there is a massive bracket behind it (inside the tunnel). Sorry, have no pics.

plate the inside over the crack, try to tie it from the upper angle brace at the top and to the heat exchanger at the bottom. You can just use the stock rivet holes so you wont see anything from the outside.

Stop drill the crack before you rebrace it. You might try and have somebody try and weld it up. Heck, even a spool gun might just work.
Thanks for the replies. Now I have to look up what "stop drill" means.
I think the rivet heads on the outside of the tunnel will come in conflict with the brace that goes on there, because they stick out from the surface, if you know what I mean. And there is this big brace behind it, and there comes also one on the other side. I think I will do the stop drill technique for now.

When you "stop drill" a crack, that means you drill an appropriate sized hole at the end of the crack. It will distribute the stress on the crack and "stop" it from going any further.
Thanks, I looked it up. Pretty smart method that.

It will not work. It is cracking because it is flexing. Unless you fix the flexing, you will still have a problem that will continue.
I don't understand why it wont work, there will be braces both in the back (in the tunnel) and in the front (as it is stock) that will fully cover it.

I think what bethviper is saying is that stop drilling it alone is not enough....adding the reenforcment will reduce the flex in that area and stop drilling the crack will prevent further damage.

I understand that, but the crack is between two reinforcements, they are already there. Should I add yet another one?

have you checked if any of the rivits are "smoking" because they are loose?
What does "smoking" mean in this context? The reason for the crack is really, that my mechanic put the braces in the wrong place (middle mount instead of the front mount for the rear suspension), the last time and partly my fault, I was trail riding with a rear suspension set up for amateur snow drags. Did pretty good actually because the new mountain sleds are not set up for straightline racing.

it means that they have a black ring around them indicating that they are loose and need to be replaced.

It means they're "working". And in this contexts, that's not good. What does "smoking" mean in this context?.
