I currently run a 1999 srx 700, for this winter I am looking at 2 deals for my son 13 yrs old and wife to learn to ride sled. Just going to keep them on Lake and trails only. First is a 2002 red sx viper for 1700 looks mint but high km. The other is a 1700$ package of a 2002 and 2003 articat 660 touring 2 up sleds one is running the other is not( not sure why yet). I know viper is not really a beginners sled but it is really beautiful. Any opinions would be great.

X2 on the Viper. There are a lot of parts that are the same as the srx which makes it a little easier to keep spare parts around. How many kms?

You'll need the non running cat just for parts.

14000 km. The thing is the sled would be mainly for a 13 yrs old and hopefully my wife will give it a try. She is kinda scared do 70 km when I double her on the srx across the lake. My son rides dirt bike and is fairly conservative in his riding think he will be same on the sled( I'm hoping). He is also 5'9 175 lbs. Does anyone think the cats would better as a beginner sled or just something he'd grow out of real quick.

No they are not. Well that I know of. One question I should have asked. Might go look tonight.

Another thing is how each sled was maintained. I am going to guess the 660 might be kind of sluggish but might be just right for a 13 year old. The 700 might be a bit much for that age but if he respects the power he would be fine. He wont grow out of the viper. And you would definitely be able to get your money back from the viper easily. I would also guess the viper would handle better in trails. We have a 98 Cat Jag 440 that my wife drives(Hopefully this year she will be on the viper) that handles like crap on the trails compared to the srx. Again how they were maintained makes a big difference. I would not be worried about the miles at all.

Ya not to worried about km. Viper looks to be beautitfully maintained. " Who needs an odometer, it's a Yamaha!"

$1700 for two sleds that age sounds like too good of a deal. Smells fishy to me.

If i was your son id be alot happier with you buying the viper over a 660 4 stroke 2 up sled...
