Handguards hitting windshield on viper

Not sure what to do with this. When I bought this viper and it has a riser with the hand guards. The guards hit the windshield. I cannot get them to not hit for nothing. I thought about getting different mounts that are straight but not sure if that would be enough. Thinking about getting the stock bars and doing away with the riser but I think my wife would benefit from the riser. Last year she said she had problems accidently hitting the throttle when she stood over the bigger bumps. That was on a 440. I don't want her to do that on a 700. I have a new windshield that is a little smaller so that could get me a little. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. The picture hitting the windshield is when I tried to flip the brackets. Hard to tell. Is that a low or mid windshield? Also what about rolling the handle bars back a little bit to change the distance. Kinda like a bicycle setup?
 
I think it is a mid windshield. The new one is supposed to be a mid and its a little over an inch shorter. I think if I get different mounts I can make it work. These mounts are angled and bulky where it mounts to the bars. If I put it in between the grip and the throttle lever you cant get full throttle. If I put it on the other side of the throttle lever I have to move it too far out to match where it will fit on the other side with the brake. I might try to straighten these and make spacers and see if I can make it work farther in on the bar so everything clears. I think if I do that I can make it clear the windshield. These are RSI mounts
 
get a pivot riser, it will bring your bars up some, and should clear the windshield. what size riser are they?

i had the exact same problem. i took the trim off the windshield and took about an inch off the sides where it hits. used some glue and put the trim back on. worked fine. Ill se if i took any pics. cant remember. there might be some in one of my threads if you feel like digging.

Like JD said, you hàve to trim windshield down. Otherwise you'll need a foot riser (jk). Gauntlets are awesome for warmth. Both my wife and daughter won't ride without them. But they are also running the low profile windshields.
 
Thanks guys. It looks like the hands would be getting serious airflow. The bars are 3" taller and 5" wider than stock. That's assuming stock is the same as the srx which I am not sure of. I think for now I will put it on the backburner and wait till we have snow so we can test and find out what she likes best. I think the gauntlets could be the answer. If not I will cut the windshield.

I'm guessing I would need the powermadd mounts. They are straight. rsi only has the mounts I have but the guards look the exact same as the powermadd.
 
Unless you have a higher seat, why the high bars? Ergonomics are all messed up then. I would recommend going back to OEM height, maybe a 2" risor at the most. OEM bars also. Cold hands=miserable ride. Ape hanger bars are really not practical.
 
I will probably let her ride it and tell me what she wants. I would prefer the oem bars over these. Hopefully when I get the m10 in she wont have to stand as much.
