03 Viper less than 5000 miles.
Going across the lake 30-50mph. Felt like machine had a bog or loss of power part way across the lake. Problem cleared up. 2-3 miles later sled shut down just like someone shut off the key. No noise. No vibration. Nothing. Engine seized solid.
Apparently these 700 cranks are known to slip out of phase?
Sudden engine seizure doesn't sound like a problem Yamaha should have.
I haven't pulled it apart yet but I will in the next week. I expect to find a seized crank bearing.
Any other ideas about what I'll find?

i don,t think you hurt your crank. i might be wrong, but i,ll say you melted down a piston and broke a piston ring. sled got lean and seized a piston. it is sudden engine seizure if ya burn a piston. 3:16x(yammie tony)

You won't believe me but my SRX did that while idling! It just abruptly shut off and I couldn't pull it over. It made no sound or anything. When I tore it down, I found no.3 cyl rod bent like a pretzel and the piston was mostly down in the crankcase. The whole problem was caused but a fuel line to #3 carb routed wrong and pinched in half. This all happened 1 mile after I bought it. It was -14F when I bought so my walk-around was very quick as I was not dressed properly. So cyl 3 was getting no fuel or oil. I may have pics already uploaded here but I won't post any now if not. OH, 3 pics were still on here. On one you can see the pinched fuel line, it was crazy, not a sound, just stopped, idling! My lack of exam cost me $1100. A good lesson though. Later, Vic
