I just bought my first sled. It is a 1998 srx 600. I have a few question about it. like RPMs at certain speeds, and rpms before moving. THe sled reuns about 6000 rpm at 50 mph. It seems high rpms to me compaired to my cousins 94 vmax 600. ait seems to not move until around 4000 -4200 rpm. I just wanted to know if this is normal. before I bough the sled the guy that owned it had the power valves rebuilt, carbs cleaned, new reeds, clutch rebuilt with weights and springs. Any adivce about this sled and recommendations on tunig would be greatly appreciated.

boats, your engagement is perfect, did you happen to notice your rpm's at full throttle?

Sorry guys you are right. It is running 8500 +- 100 rpm. The 9500 was a typo. I do have another question. behind the left cyl. there is a nob that is marked on/ off. The nob is on what I think is a cooling rail. What does this nob do and should it be run in hte on or off position. Does air temp make difference in running it on or off?

that knob is for the liquid heated carbs, it should be on when you are anywhere below 25*F, and off anywhere above that. You will find it very hard or even impossible to move once the engine is warmed up, so make sure that if you want to move it, you do it before you run the sled.

thanks yamaholic22. I thought that it had something to do with the carbs but I wasn't sure exactly what it did.

I never use those carb heaters. I used to use them, but my sled would like to foul plugs when I had them on. Keep them off all the time and don't run into any problems. Just my .02.
