Idk, maybe a silly question, but would there be any reason why I couldn't drop a 02 viper motor in an 04 viper chassis? Is there extra electronic bs with the 04's that wouldn't have a place to be plugged into the older motor? Also, the 04 has ohlins in the front, how much better is it gonna ride with those and the newer but basically same pro action skid? Did yamaha tweak them much from 02 to 04? Besides having extra parts and an obvious front shock upgrade how much am I gaining by doing that? Nothing really wrong with the 02 chassis other than cosmetic stuff and it having 6000 mi. vs. 1200.

The 04 will have the DCS which would be only difference. You could just switch heads on motors for easy fix as the DCs port is on the head. No other difference other then front ohlin shocks. The 02 rear shocks are better then 04 with a rebuild ànd revalve for rider. 04 had better ripsaw track also.
Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Already got the ripsaw on the 02 and the head is bad on the 04. Ohlins would be nice....food for thought. Its a good deal I think but not sure its worth the effort. Kinda looking into a phaser as a change of pace too. If the 04 were rev and e start I would've been a no brained but it's not. We'll see what else pops up.

As Super said. There's another way to go about it. I have a 02 motor in a 04 chassis. I used the 02 harness, cdi, tank shroud, and bars
