I'm out of ideas! I have a sno scoot which has never run well, I've tried every thing with the carbs, changed out the jets, cleaned it several times and at least kept it running. this year it wont start at all. I have changed the fuel filter, lines, cleaned the carb, new spark plug, switched out the coil (have spark) checked the pump and its moving fuel. I have switched out the carb with my other scoot and it worked fine in that one. any help would be greatly appreciated.

haven't checked compression, I don't have a way to check it. Would you feel a big difference when kicking it, it seems to be about the same as it always has.

put yout thumb over the spark plug hole and kick it. it should blow it right off and feel almost like hot air. literally a rule of thumb if you dont have a tester ahahah

Nice rule of thumb! I tried it and it had good compression. I guess I'll keep looking for a bad wire. Thanks for the input

The Timing could be off I would check that as well. Or it could be something really simple that you could be over looked.

I thought about the timing, and was trying to start simple! I was also thinking about the spark, I do have spark but could it be too weak? It doesn't look real strong. I know the coil is good because I tried it in my other scoot and it fired up on first kick. Is it possible the CDI unit is bad? What does the CDI do? thanks

Simply put it hold and release voltage it could be going bad. Try the cdi from the other scoot and give it ago if it works that's your problem if it doesn't work then it's something else.. Could als be a bad gasket and its getting to much air..

I tried two new plugs and the one from the working scoot no difference. it pops and I tried a squirt of starting fluid no luck, I haven't had a chance to switch out the CDI but I will try to get to it tonight. I'll also try the pre mix in the cyl and see what happens.

I switched out the cdi, no luck, and the other scoot fired right up with the cdi i pulled out of this one, tried the pre mix in the cyl, no luck. getting pretty frustrating!!

I would get a compression tester and check it should be around 120psi. Then start checking and making sure all fuel lines are on right and makes sure the carb boot is not busted. And checking that there is no extra air flow anywhere.. Dumb question but have you checked your exhaust pipe to make sure its not clogged up maybe take the baffle out??

I did check the exhaust and seemed alright, the carb boots are tight and no dry rot. I was going to pull off the carb tonight and check it and the fuel system again. I'll see about picking up a compression tester also. Thanks again for the imput

just an update, I pulled out the carb and tried to kick it to look at the fuel supply, there was barley anything coming out of the pump so I took it apart and it looks like the diaphragm was warped, not sure if that was the problem but I will switch out the pump form the other scoot tomorrow.

While your down there messing around I would check that the filter in the tank is still on and didn't fall off the line. I have had that that happen to me and never thought about it until the neighbor said to double check it.. Just a thought 😊

sorry, I just got a chance to switch out the pumps, still nothing. I replaced the line from the engine case to the pump and when I kick it seems to be blowing air so the pump should be working, I disconnected the outlet of the pump and kick it- nothing comes out of the pump. rest of the fuel system is good, lines are full of fuel right up to the pump, just nothing after the pump. I know that pump is good the other scoot runs great. I have a buddy coming over this weekend with a compression gage maybe there's not enough compression.

Sounds like there's not enough compression to get the vacuum needed to pull the fuel to the carb causing it not to start..

Maybe you and your buddy can get it going it's always easier to figure out what's wrong when you can see and hear what happening..
