ok so heres the scoop.
just bought an sx600 triple with two bad pistons(clutch side is only good one). Guy said it just shut off. no big bang thankfully. So ill be rebiulding it and selling it when im done. It had hauck tripple pipes that my 700sx will be getting but thats another topic. So what will i have to change to put the stock exhaust on it.
Right now its got:
47.5 pilots and 145 mains in the carbs
primary has a yellow marked spring with 8ca01 wieghts
secondary is hauk powersports helix (no numbers) and a green spring.
here some pics of the damage. only had 4200 miles on it and in real good shape otherwise. had a egt gauge with some sensors in the pipes as well.
has 2 bad pistons and possible jugs too unless i can hone or bore them.
any comments welcome about why she stopped!

Perfect! thats what i was looking for. Thanks!
the carbs shouldnt be an issue but, can i work with the current clutch set up? Like just changing out wieghts or spring?

Changing out the weights and springs will put you back to stock. I may have everything in my shop used to put that back to stock as well. The current set up is a Hauk clutch kit for that sled. It might be a bit to heavy for stock pipe if thats what they had in the triple pipes. I would start with the weights empty and see how it runs.
Them cylinders are ported

OK sounds good. Ilol keep in touch if I need some parts. But I'll try running it withas empty weights and tune from there if its close.
As far as the ported cylinders is that an issue for a stock pipe and jet set up? Or will I just have to bump up the jet size one. Not looking for tons of power, just want to rebuild a reliable sled.

Stock jets in that ported motor would be plenty fat to keep it safe.

so i may have hit a snag. not sure how i missed this when i looked at it but theres 2 good spots where some studs went into the cooler. one even went throught the bulkhead just about.
going t have to find a way to pressure test it. If its pooched i may just part it out. ill come out ahead and get a pair of pipes for my 700. time will tell.

source of the burn down?
No big deal easier to have it welded than change. I have welded 2 or 3

Ya my best guess is he lost all his coolant and overheated. no detonation, said it just stopped on him.

Looks like someone put a rip saw with studs on the machine and no protectors... this is a NO NO unless you change the drivers to 8 tooth but then you still need to gear back up and you must have the protectors.

I just picked up a vmax 600 with the same problem. stud through cooler, overheated and fried the motor. That's why I don't like running studs in my sleds!

Im not a fan of studs for this reason.
Ya I'm thinking this isn't a quick flip anymore. Probably going to keep some parts for my dad's sled and mine and sell the rest. Not looking to just break even after rebuilding and throwing parts at it.
