So I gotta dumb question my buddys 98 vmax xtc 600 he bought a few weeks back we was going over it and everything was fine but hand an thumb warmers didn't work. So he bought a heated grips setup off eBay it all hooked up but the red hot wire and don't know where to hook it up at. It didn't come with any directions and it was used.
So where do we hook the red wire that comes out of a little fuse box? Where assuming the ground will go anywhere.
Thanks for any help.

Tried wiring them into the old hand warmers and that didn't work.
where else can I hook it? Will it work if I wired it into the headlight?
I am not good when it comes to wiring any thing up.

Not sure what set he bought but doesnt sound right. The OEM grips wire in a series from wires in handlebar pad. The grips have nothing to do with fuse box. Most likely if both did not work then he had other issues other then grips. Put a ohm meter on the old grips and see what you get. I have specs posted here somewhere Or make some jumpers and put on battery for a couple of sec. If The the old grips were good they will heat up pretty fast there is no hot or neg. Just one wire to + battery and one to -. The grips and thumb warmer take a bit to get hot and really dont heat up untill sled in over 3500rpm for a bit.

They didn't come with any directions when he got them. He only paid $15 for them.

Not sure on those. But i would wire right to battery if XTC with e start. If not the blue wire from under pad does give a constant hot. Would work but may put a strain on headlight with that draw. Best bet battery or find out if old grips were even bad.

Will try the blue wire as he does not have electric start.
Do you know if it might be to much of a strain on Te headlight?

No but the old single bulb ignition system can only handle so much. And I bet if you ohm those grips out the will have a pretty good draw. I just don't remember the exact wire up on that system if the blue wire on the pad is before of after rectifier. But the system is all wired to the same stator.

Might just Install a battery if all else fails. He has a old battery lying around out of an exciter.

Why don't you guys just trouble shoot they system. Start at grips and work your way back? I bet it's a easy fix. He will kill that battery in a hour unless you have it hooked to the charging system.

We'll play with it this weekend as he's in no hurry as there's no snow yet.
I don't know why he even wants them hooked up as he is like me and never use's them.

Oops wrong button.
We plugged his old grips into mine and they worked and plugged mine into his and and they worked. Then we wired his new grips into mine and they worked on mine but still didn't work on his which we thought was weird. So we just swaped my old grips for his new grips. And he seems to be happy with his sled now that he has heat that he will never use. Lol..
Thanks for the help super1c..
