Ive had this issue since buying my SX700 many seasons ago. The sled has about 11K mi on it and runs great. Looks like all Hell but is an awesome sled that I hope to keep until its "totally" DEAD... It now has adj transfer rods a snostuff can and a few onther small things but mainly stock... I cant lift the skis because it ratchets so bad under acceleration. The track tension is fine and Ill be tearing apart the chaincase but Pretty sure thats fine also. Speedo driveshaft bearing is fine so WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE??! I need my sled for the season ready to go and it just sucks somethings usually going on with it... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thank you everybody!

Break open that chain case and take a picture of it.

Sounds like a loose or wore out chain. Might need new chain and gears if really bad.

Unless something is damaged in your skid and it's binding that ratcheting sound comes from either the track slipping or the chain slipping.

Thanks guys, I had the case opened right when I bought the sled and replaced both gears and chain which didn't correct the problem but ill open it up again to check. Can drive shaft or cogs be bad after so many miles?

What kind of things in skid should I check? It has a CLEAN viper skid in it now. The W arm wasnt cracked or anything.Unless something is damaged in your skid and it's binding that ratcheting sound comes from either the track slipping or the chain slipping.

whats the chances the chain is the wrong size for the gear combo? hows the chain tensioner adjustment? hyvo chain on rexnard gears or vice verse? anybody do alterations to the skid placement? wrong t-rods? just some food for thought.

If it matters, the sled has an older ripsaw probably a 1.25" or 1.5" some missing lugs and such but decent yet also the front heat exchanger is barely attached but I just dont understand what else this issue could be.

Drive cogs could be wore out. Check to see if there missing any or if there rounded off kinda.

It's also possible that your heat exchanger could be hitting the track if its barely attached causing this problem to occur.

I had the chain tightener loosen you on me causing the grinding and jumping teeth. Also check the cogs for being loose on the shaft. Might be spinning the shaft inside the cog.

I had a tensioner come loose on me once too, made grinding noise similar to track ratcheting.

How would I know the cogs are bad just by looking at it? Also how involved of a ordeal is pulling the driveshaft out/swapping one?

Not that hard to do just drop the skid and remove chain case cover and the speedometer hook up.
When you look at the cogs you can see if there wore out and see if you can move them on the shaft.

Start simple. Open the chain case.

how are the drive lugs on the track. Look them over and make sure they are not missing any or warn out causing it to skip under power
