Hi all, getting my new to me 700SX ready for this year. The speedometer isn't working and I'm able to remove the speedo cable from the gear housing and spin it to get the speedo to move, so I'm assuming its the housing and/or the joint inside that is no longer good. Can anyone tell me if the housing off of a 95 Vmax 600 will work? I'm having no luck finding a used one for mine and don't want to pay $80 for a new one without knowing it's for sure the problem.

If anyone has a used one they'd like to sell, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands!

Thanks guys.

The part #'s for a 97 and the 95 housings are different. The 95 is 83R-47700-00-00 the 97 is 8CR-47700-00-00. I'm not saying you couldn't make it work but they are different.

I have had several of the little cable drives (Yamaha calls them a joint) break over the years on my SS 440's. It is the weak link in this system.
The part # is 8K4-47715-00-00. A place near me sells them for $3.

Also if the front axle bearing is loose/worn out it can take out this cable drive as well.

Thanks a bunch for the info! I have yet to tear it apart but I think I will tonight to see which piece might be the problem. I'm hoping it's just the joint.
