I'm new to this site but anyways I picked up a 2000 SXR 700 triple in the spring of the year so I'm just getting into it.When I get it fired ( I dumped the old gas and installed fresh ) up it requires keeping the choke on to make it richer and keep it running.I removed the carbs and found the pilot jets were plugged.I cleaned them and the bowls that had white buggers in it ,reinstalled the carbs but still have the same problem. My main concern is that it also backfires out the exhaust on acceleration at times.Plugs are new and it has 145-150 PSI in all three cylinders.Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

My experience with these triples is you don't want to over choke them as they will foul plugs quickly. I go choke on to choke off only enough to keep it running. you said you were into the carbs did you pull air screws and blow through the pilot passages? Check plugs (Mainly #1 PTO side) Bypass TORS wires in the main harness (2 wires that go to carb) by plugging the 2 together and see if backfire goes away.
X2 sounds like a TORS problem if the carbs are clean.

carbs are still dirty, clean them again.
Trouble is it won't keep running unless you keep flipping the choke lever on.I pulled the carbs apart again today, removed the pilot, main jets and air bleed screws and blew compressed air thru it.No obvious crap came out but we will see when I put them back on the sled. The two wires to the carbs were plugged into each other, need to check the harness from the throttle. No time to work on it till Saturday.

K you wont have to go to far there will be a 2 wire harness coming off the main harness right down by the carb wires. Will be Yellow/Black and Brown with bullet connector ends, make sure they are clean and plugged into each other.

all good info here, and good move cleaning carbs, but, inspect your reeds and check your exhaust pipe and muffler for mouse nest. 3:16x (yammie tony)

flipping the choke indicates fuel starvation -----> look for restriction in fuel system. make sure you can see carb cleaner coming out of the little hole in the carb throat.

The idle circuit (tiny passage) may be plugged in one or more carb. You may have to clean them to get that clear, soak and blow air through to check to make sure clear idle & secondary passages clear. If you feel lucky run some fuel through with heavy mix seafoam 20-25%. Run it, then let it sit. Try again until it clears. Use small amounts of "heavy mix" 1-2 gallons, and then go to clean fuel tank fill if it clears. If you are lucky it will dissolve the gunk from the old gas.
I have run seafoam in all my outdoor equipment, mowers, tractor, snowblower, outboard boat motors, sleds, scooters, stored cars, before storage and haven't cleaned a carb after doing so. I've purchased several toys with motors that had gunked carbs and ended up cleaning since they were completely gunked and seafoam would not penetrate, but you might get lucky and will save you another tear down.

Well thanks for all your great ideas.I took the carbs apart again, blew compressed air thru the bleed scew circuit and mains.Reinstalled the carbs and it fires up and idles on it's own,no backfire either. My question is why was there a backfire out the exhaust, would a lean condition cause that?

You had mentioned the tors was plugged into itself. If it was bypassed on one end and not the other it could cause the backfire.

yup, that's a sign of a lean burn, popping and back firing out the pipe.
