02 viper...My recoil rope comes out like half way before it engages. Any ideas before I pull it apart? I ******* HATE working on recoils lol

Get a brand new #6.

And a good cleaning. Getting any gummy substance off of the recoil spring and anything that touches the dog(#4). I like coating the moving surfaces w/ CRC Dry Graphite Lube.

If your lucky it's just a matter of cleaning up the parts and like couple of bucks said use a dry graphite lube,or a white lithium spray. If you don't want to get into unwinding the spring you can use a c clamp to hold the sheave to the case so it doesn't move, then take the bolt out of the centre of the recoil to remove the dog so you can give it a good cleaning.

I also use vice grips to aid w/ the rope not going back in all the way.
