Ok guys my first test ride of the year didn't go as planned. Ive got a slight knock or ping almost. i thought i was a clutch noise but it seems to be heard best from the top of the air box. It does this at idle but cant hear it over the exhaust when i rev it up. Ive just put hauck pipes on and its jetted accordingly, but was going to get the clutch dialed in today with the heel clickers that are on there now.
its not loud by any means but its there. I can almost replicate it from just wiggling the clutch back and forth.
Its jetting is:
148.8 mains
stock pilots
needle set to 4th position
fuel screw out 2 turns
heres what the plugs look like after a 5 min ride around the yard. I let it idle for a little and only gave it 1/4 to 1/2 throttle but didnt want to run it much more
From left to right its clutch side, centre, recoil side
clutch side has almost no brown on it at all.
ill be doing a compression test later as well.
Also sled has 8000 miles on the original engine i belieive.
Any help would be great!

Clutch side looks like it is either not firing or has no compression which could lead to the nocking sound. Same thing happened to my phazer.

good to know. Last year i checked copession at the beginning of the year and it was 120 across the board. gotta wait until monday to get it tested. I think im going to pull the airbox and check for a pinched fuel line or carb issue though.

It looks like a drip of fuel on the clutch side plug at approx 5:00.

good eye didn't notice that at first.
Clutch side don't look like it running right. Center looks great. And recoil side looks like it's a little running a little rich... I bet your problem lye's on the clutch side...

we tested compression and spark and everthing was great. I ran it now after thawing it out and all the plugs have some good color and it sounds great. Im pretty sure my carb froze up from sitting outside after i pulled it out of my garage and let it sit for a few hours in the snow/sleet. All is well! just some tweaking now. Ill pull the plugs and take some pics for you guys soon.

Looks good to me but the clutch side could be just a little darker but all in all they look better than the first pic.

Did you pull and clean the carbs, I would highly recommend it incase there is some water or crud in there still.

they were cleaned about 2 weeks ago with no miles on them until now. put all new fuel in there too.
