97 Vt 500. Had it at the dealer to clean the carbs. Started at first pull. Ran good on chocke, once I took it off it ran poorer and poorer
and now it won't start even with full chocke. I tried pouring a little gas through the plugholes, and it ran while the gas in there lasted. What's wrong?
Plugged pilot jets?

I would have to say that that is where you should look first.pilots should be plugged. It is not getting a steady flow of fuel.Whose sled is this by the way? You home for xmas I gather.
It's mine. Got a girlfriend now so I need a 2 up. Yes, home for christmas
You will NOT! believe what was wrong.
#7 is so old and stiff that the filter is not on the bottom of the tank, it is hanging in mid air:

I filled the tank so the filter was submerged in gas and it started right up!

Must have sat for a while with no fuel. Might want to replace it. My buddy had a skidoo that sat empty for a long time and the line in the tank was so brittle it broke apart and ended up with a tiny piece that got stuck in the needle and seat. Went into a bar and came out a little later and when he started it it popped and then nothing. The crankcase on that cylinder filled with fuel. Bent a rod.
Thanks, I'll have to order some parts for it and fix that.
Can you twist the "angle" of the fuel line inside the tank without disassembling the grommet? How do I dissassemble the grommet?

Had a similar problem on my 99 Vmax. I replaced the pickup line and filter. You can remove the fitting on the tank which will give access to the pickup line connection. I used a flexible grab tool to run the new line down.
