Looking for some help regarding an electrical issue and here goes. Sled runs perfect but when I switch the hi low beam for the lights from high to low the headlight goes real dim, and the engine backfires and sounds like its running on one cylinder and wont rev up. Switch back to high beam and sled runs good. Also at the same time the tach goes right to zero and returns to normal when switched back to high beam. The tach also stops working when I apply the brake leaver and as soon as the lever is released it works as normal. If it matters at all the temperature light blinks three times at start up, tail and brake light works but the heated handgrips don't work. Any help would be great.

there was a relay update for that year of MM, check the local dealer for more info about the symptom of the update

You could have a wire rubbed through somewhere. Check harness over good everywhere especially under the engine.
Ok thanks for the reply's. I will start chasing wiring and hopefully can find the issue.

I found some info on the relay thing, and it sounds like you have damaged wire somewhere

the relay only caused starting issues. you have a rub through somewhere.
Well sure would be nice if it was just a bolt on item instead of unwinding the harness and looking for a barred wire. Ill check where the wires are laying down in the belly pan under the engine first as the previous poster suggested. Maybe ill get lucky.

look where the wires go down the steering column too.
