Hello all, just bought (was given) my first Yamaha. It's a 91 exciter 2, and is going to be my project on/off trail sled as I already have a trail sled. I pulled the engine out today because it was locked up. Got the cylinders off, and the crank I would say it toast. The engine is not blown but it looks like someone sank the sled and left the water sitting in it so it's just all rusted up, and wont spin at all. I've done some research, and found out I can drop in a 600 vmax up to 97. I have a lead on a good 97 engine for cheap, would the 97 drop in aside from wiring? Any info is greatly appreciated. I'd rebuild the crank in the 570 but I don't know what that could wind up costing, my guess is quite a bit. Thanks!

Here's a pic of it for fun.. yes I know its in rough shape. It will be stripped down to the last bolt, and all redone/modified.

97 wont work. You need a 94-96 bottom end.

Okay, thank you. I'll call my parts guy today, and see what he has. I don't plan to ride it this season so I'm in no rush. If I had to guess I'd say my case is fine, I've found a few cranks on ebay.. but you never know what you're buying on there. The engine has been rebuilt at some point, the pistons are stamped 020. If thats the case I'll want to get two jugs too, I don't like running a 2 stroke that's bored out like that.

I've also heard I can toss the 600 top end on it. We will see.

Yep, you can put a 600 top end on the Exciter bottom end, BUT you have to use the 600 cylinder studs and make sleeves for the studs to compensate for the stud bushings that the 600 cases have in then to keep the cylinders from moving around. At the point your at, you might as well find a complete 600 engine if you decide not to rebuild your 570. Running those sleds bored is not a problem, however your cylinders are not 91's. They are 87-90 since they are sleeved and bored over.

I have a 92 exciter engine I'd sell if you decide and I am in maine

I talked to my parts guy today, he has half a dozen or so vmax 600 complete bottom ends.. He recommended what you did, and just put in a complete 600 motor. He was also unsure of how mine was bored out since they are nikasil. I don't see saving any part of my engine. It's far too rusted, if I posted pics you would probably be amazed.
