srx head gasket

My buddy used to own a sxr 600 red head and recall him saying that he took the 3 piece head??? gasket and just used one of the three layers to raise compression? Is this doable for my 2000 srx 700? and if so how is it done and what is accomplished?

No, not on the SRX, it uses o-rings for the head gasket.

What about the base gasket> Wouldnt that do the same thing or is it one piece?

Too bad. I like doing cheap and easy things to get that little bit more. Oh well.

Changing the base gasket alters port timing too. Some people were getting the stock heads machined. It's easy enough to do, but you need to find a spec as to how much was removed. I believe they didn't touch the squish area only took it off the outside edge of the head..................SRXtreme
