I recently bought a 2003 mountain max 700 triple, now I also own a 1998 VMax SX 700, I noticed on the mountain max there is 2 wires coming from where the throttle cable goes into the carbs, On my SX the same 2 wires go into the wiring harness on the right side of the machine but on the mountain max they are disconnected, I weas wondering if anyone know what these wires are for and what effect if any does it have being unhooked????
I included a pic, this isn't my machine but I outlined where the wire comes from and goes into

That would be your TORS it is to keep the sled from taking off if something goes wrong. Some people just unhook them so they don't have to mess with getting the throttle cable slack right. But there might be a reason they unhooked it.
You can plug it back in and see if the tors light comes on if so check the slack in the cable.
It not needed but is a great safety feature. I just disconnect mine and run a tether for safety.

Tors. If for some reason your throttle sticks it will kick in. It is a good safety feature and if setup properly it will give you no problems. If the switch is bad there is a write up in the tech section on how to clean it. It is a very easy job to clean it. Pretty much every Yamaha I know it was bypassed and I hooked all mine back up. I had one I had to clean the switch and it works perfect again. I would highly recommend hooking it back up.

If it's not working right either cable slack or dirty contacts the sled will hit a rev limiter at around 3000 rpm.
