Do you guys remember back in 02 or 03 that there was some talk about yamaha being on a 3 year cycle for new sleds? At the time I though, No Way, never happen. But, if you look at it, it looks true. The Viper was the first "new" sled (still proaction chassis, but new motor and new body) since 98 and it only ran for three years, 02,03 and 04. The RX-1 came out in 03 and only ran for 03,04,05. Now Apex 06,07,08. ???? Maybe, maybe not, just something to think about. If its going to start working this way it will be nice to keep seeing something new every 3 years. ===SRXSRULE===

I think the RX-1 will be back. I think they will market it like they did the SRX, as a high-speed lake runner. That sled has waaay too much potential for them to just drop it completely.
I think they will update the engine with EFI and other tuning tricks to get it up to 160 hp so that they have something to compete with the Mach Z. I think that if the RX-1 was raised up to 160 hp that it would compete very well with the Mach Z. The weight of the 2 sleds is pretty close (the RX is 10 pounds heavier) and I think that the RX would get off the line better.
I also find the rumor about the '06 Yammie ditchbanger having a 14" wide track as very interesting. A lot of Cat guys say they like the 14" track a lot better and Ive heard that Cat may be dropping the F-Cat chassis and going back to a 15" wide track. I think that a lot of people will jump to a Yammie if they can get 4-stroke power, fuel economy and durability with big-bump capability.

Hebi.....The rx-1 is not going away.....It got a face lift, EFI, and a name change. You will not see the name RX-1 in 06. ===SRXSRULE===

i dont think a 14 inch track will be there either, rumors have it cat will have a hybrid that is firecat/mcat mix.... i think f series, ie 14 inch track, will be gone after 06, replaced with traditional 15 inch sneaker like the m series...

too many customer complaints about the 14 inch feeling tippy.... hope yami is smart enough to listen, however, in the past they have seemed to only "partially" listen, ie 02 viper, then 04 viper s, gave us almost what we wanted both times, a little farther on the 04, then gone. so who knows, i guess we will see on monday.

13.5" or as we call them on the mountain.....Pizza Cutters ! They Cut deep into the Snow. LOL ===SRXSRULE===

ya with the apex on the scene the RX-1 is obsolete I guess.... I'm betting a BIT of a price difference tho!

ya the pizza cutters do feel awfull tippy, no doubt there.

likely will see the rx-1 motor in a venture chassis to on monday, this ditchbanger has my interest peaked, but power to weight might be a serios issue, fuel mileage will make-up for alot tho, I pity the Fcats at the pumps!

still tho, I dunno what twin they're planning on stuffing in that sled to make 120-130hp, but I'm calling

Watch the RX-1 chassis live for another 3 years like the SXr did with the Viper. Same stuf just different plastic. If you like the way they changed the plastic on the Viper I bet they change the plastic on the RX-1 and call it something else and use a retuned version of the same chassis. Yamaha will run up to 6 years on one chassis before they change. Not to say they will start a new line and start improving on it but they use the same lines as the auto makers when it comes to retooling chassis's. Build inventory with one and start another. It cost's too much to change everything over for only three years. Just what I have seen. My 2 cents. :4STroke:

Going to be interesting to see if the names get rotated back into the equation like has happened in the past! Like the SRX & Vmax! The new every 3 is nice in a way & sad at the same time! I guess they can't live on forever!

Yup

Looks as though the Viper is in the stable until 08 or beyond. Really friggin moves these days and with a big bore, expert X, Ohlins, etc. (yet to install) I think I will ride it "forever" as I could never spend enough aftermarket money to top $10,000.

Then buy another on the used market and combine the two for another 3-4 years. 4 stroke, EFI, blah, blah, blah, they'll never catch the Morphed Viper.

And as I said earlier I will be able to work on it without re-tooling the garage. Hey I think I have come up with a new handle for TY.
