Normally means the sender in the tank is gummed up or going out. My SXR did the same thing. I replaced with new it was like $20 if I remember right.

And if I empty and clean the tank do I need to prime the pump or just fill it and go.

If you siphon it out you don't need to get it all the way empty and you can just refill and go. You just need to get it under the top of the sensor where it goes in the tank. And if I empty and clean the tank do I need to prime the pump or just fill it and go.

you will see the sensor in the side of the tank. Just run it down past the sensor location (about 1/4 of a tank) and pull it out. Put the new one in and plug it in. should be good to go. No need to siphon the oil out. Just run it down again and change it.

I know this is old but stupid question, are you referring to the sending unit inside the gas tank? I’m on my first sled and I topped the oil and other fluids off but the light won’t turn off
