looking for a "how to" on phazer carb mod

i have an old phazer guessing 87 ish has the maroon seat and graphics, it has mid bog idles fine good snappy low end good top just mid, i have been told but cant fing the drill / epoxy mod to carb i have read the service bulletin, just dont want to put 80 pucks into the carbs, we dont get snow often, this is just for fun with the family when we do get some it may get 20 miles a year on it, any help on a how to would be great just looking for it to run smooth mid is where it will be used most, also does it need a battery to be in it, the light worked on it when i first got it running, but after some revving it went to just one beam, and now nothing
 

If you have the electric start then yes you need the battery my 87 is the same way. No battery it goes bright, dim, then nothing put battery back in and I had lights again even on a dead battery.
