Not a question, but a statement. I own 4 SX700's, my wife's is the only 98, and has electric start and a M-10 under the back.
My original 97, and 2 of the others have over 8,000 miles on them and are running strong. That original 97, has led a rough life. Pitched a stud through the front head exchanger about 10 years ago, lost all the coolant before the red light came on. It had gotten so hot that the normally red head had turned to the color of a hershey bar, no lie. We towed it in, I tore it down, cylinders looked fine, but the head was warped. Took it into local shop had the head milled and bolted it back together. Runs great. I also had the recoil cage, come loose and knock a fist sized hole through the crankcase, didn't impact the lower end of the engine, wrapped a belt around the primary and rode it back in. I've replace the cage and the recoil, bought a used pair of crankcases, and they still sit on the shelf. Looks rough under the hood, but it still runs great. I've read where there has been some issues with overheating with these things, and I believe some have installed the rear heat exchanger from the SRX? I don't say that you should ignore that warning light, but these things can literally run when overheated with minimal damage.

Impressive after getting that hot it still runs.
I'm about 500 miles shy of 10K on my 96 XT 600 and the wife has 8k on her 95 600 LE.
We have 2 SS440's with close to 8K on them. I rebuilt one of these motors 10+ years ago, only motor I ever lost.
We ridden with a group that have included Phazers and SRX's with 15K+ and their motors were never apart.
