1999 yamaha venture 600 triple.... smokes way too much

On the oil injection cable there is a metal joint just above the carbs, grab both ends of the cable and pull, there will be a gap between them, it should be between 22 and 24mm. If your gap is right it might be your pump going bad, when they go bad they dump extra oil into the engine.
 
Hey sinedar you never mentioned when this motor smokes! If it is at cold start don't worry about it my 600 fills the back yard with smoke warming up even with synthetic oil! That's just oil that's accumulated at the bottom of the crankcase,once it's driven it shouldn't be really smokin', you might smell it but thats a good thing,right? And too it is worth checking the measurement on the oil cable for safety sakes.
 
How much oil is it using? I typically check my sleds by driving 160 km (100 miles).... This is equivalent to a full tank of gas at my average 10 miles per gallon... My MM and Vmax are both 45 litre (or 10 gallon IMP) fuel tanks.... When I reach the 100 miles I refill oil reservoir... If it takes close to a full litre, I know I'm still burning a 45:1 ratio.... Both sleds are typically 45:1 and they seem to like it... Both sleds smoke much worse then one would expect... Be careful of adjusting oil consumption without first determining present consumption during average driving... TJ
