98 sx700 clutch questions again!

So I got to ride the sled, I ended up using a clutch from an 08 phazer, I put my 8ch weights which are equipped with the 13.9 rivets in both holes. I put my 14.5 roller in it also. The clutch has a newer style short cover on it with a pink blue pink spring, it has 117 total force where the wsw spring (stock)shows its 110 total force, it has 8dn belt, this thing was way over revving, I glanced at tach and was showing beyond 10 grand! Needless to say I put her back in the garage before a catastrophic malfunction. I guess my question is, is well the stock primary spring bring my rpms where they should? That should put the clutch back to stock specs, but I'm wanting to purchase a new belt also, and stock is the 8dn, but I don't mind to run the 89l if it is going to bring my rpm closer to stock, we only get enough snow for maybe 100 miles a year, so either belt would be just fine. I just don't want to buy a bunch of parts to get things wrong! Ialso have a blue blue blue spring from the clutch that was on it, it is much less total force, about 86 i believe, i don't have any snowto test ride, but would that spring be to little of force, not allowing enough rpm?Thank you guys***added some pics if it helps anyone out

First off, make sure all your bushings are in good shape. Everything is clean and moves freely. Do this on both clutchs.

This part I'am no pro at, but it did work wonders for me. Maybe someone else on this site can guide you better.

Next step would be heavier weights. (Maybe different springs to but I have no experience with that yet). You can punch out those weight rivets and had heavier ones from your local Yamaha dealer. They're like 1.50$ each. I also added two 6mm washers for more weight to each rivet. So that's 2.8g more then stock to each tip. I only changed the rivets at the tip, set the secondary spring a bit lighter, and got great results. (500+ rpms lower) You may need to change both rivets. No big deal. The picture is of me making sure the washers didn't touch the clutch casing. They did, so a little triming was needed to fixed that. Goodluck.

Alright, I actually had am initial brain fart thinking I had a blue pink blue spring, much lower total force and was confusing the heck out of myself, just ordered a new white silver white spring, some new cam slider shoes for secondary and gonna try to set it at probably a 60 wrap to try, I believe it's on 70, has a bender power shift helix. I am hoping for some more snow to try it out after all of this, but not looking to promising as it's suppose to be almost 60 here this weekend lol, thanks guys
 
98 sx700 clutch questions update!

I ordered a white silver white primary spring, and new secondary slider shoes or buttons, not sure which they are called, I set secondary wrap to 60 degrees, it has a bender power shift helix on it, rollers and weights in good shape, my engagement increased to roughly 6k and still showing over 9 grand probably more like 10 on tach, no snow so it's just hung up on barn rafter in the rear, I just can't imagine that a complete stock clutch calibration is that far off, also I have 8dn belt and also set correct deflection today. Everything with the clutch matches the tech pages for a 98 sx700, I'm not sure if it makes a difference that the clutch itself came from an 08 phazer. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you for your help
 
Can't clutch it with out any force/ drag on it. Hanging it up will be just shooting your self in foot
 
Rode sled, according to tach engagement is about 5800 and shift out showing about 10500, I'm going to borrow the neighbors inductive pickup tach and strap it to the bar's,at 8500 this thing sounds like it's just cruising to me, gonna verify tach and see what that tells me and go from there
 
The spring in it was short color code, vertical on spring, so I ordered a short spring, the cover does not appear like most tall covers I have seen pics of, part number 90501-555j9

You know I'm really not sure, I'd have to go look, I want to say 8, the front driver came from a 97 sx
 
should be 9 if its factory,im thinking you need a lighter spring,your at the high end of the spring chart,choose one with a lower preload to get your engagement down,and a lower rate/total force to keep your rpm at peak power.im thinking your probably gonna need a sring in this range,blue yellow blue preload 25/rate 2.0/ total force 90.your white silver white has a preload of 35/ rate 2.25/ and total force 110.id change the spring,but here is the chart for you to choose from.clutch springs.jpg
