so ive got my ss440 put together and it idles around great with one issue. It bogs bad at full throttle from a stand still. i can ease it up then pin it and it goes like a bat out of hell!
ive cleaned the carbs out and theres new fuel line and filter eveywhere. Not sure if more gunk loosened up from the carbs or what?
im running 145 mains and a 90 pilot with the fuel screw out 1.5 turns.
ill pull the carbs again and clean them out but any other suggestions would be awesome.

Sounds like you need to do a carb adjustment to clear that up maybe idle it up a bit or maybe drop a jet size.

I have 2 of these SS440’s, one of them has less bog than the other but they both do it if you snap the throttle open from a dead stop. I have cleaned and inspected the carbs many times over the last 25 years. The insides of mine are set up just like it is supposed to be on paper.
Backing the fuel screw out as much as another full turn helps.
My sled with the larger bog has always been the faster sled, go figure.
On a hard packed trail, If I snap the throttle open from a stand still it will bog then after about 5 feet yank the skis up and carry them a long ways.

I seemed to read a similar situation before tuning a pipe. The guy raise the needle one click.

may have to jump to a 95 pilot ....srv and ss440 all had the dreaded low end bog .....they need more fuel at the bottom end even then it only gets so good

ive got no idea how old the clutch springs are at all. seems to move fairly smooth after a good cleaning. i need new pins though. they are pretty worn out and the weights have a lot of side to side play.
ill try plying with the fuel screw a bit and maybe get new jets too.
Was the main jet a 145 stock? thought i saw a 135 was factory spec somewhere.

I think you should fix your clutch 1st as it will cause bogging in some cases.

I was up doing some riding over the weekend so I looked up the jettings in my SS 440 owner's manual.
Stock is 160 for my 82's. I know I have A 145 in the sled I just went through this fall. It has had this main jet in it for the last 25 years. Never a melt down, but this is my SS that boggs the worst from a dead dig.
The sled my daughter rides is the other 82 SS and it still runs like a champ. She put over a 150 miles on it and I even swapped sleds and rode it for a few miles down a railroad grade trail for old time sake.
I will still cruise at 50 all day long and put a smile on my face when I pin the throttle and pull run it up to about 65, Just don't hit too big of a bump at that speed....
She actually asked me to swap back because she doesn't like how loud my stock pipe 96 XT is. She is right, her SS is whisper quiet in comparison.
