Problem solved, turned the jets to 1.75 and machine starts incredibly again. Thank you

Hi All,
Have been reading all the Ovation posts without seeing anything close to the issue I am having. Cleaned the carb on my sons 96 Ovation 2 cyl with Tiekika (sp) carb. The machine started half decent before the cleaning. Now I have to choke and pin the throttle for 30 or 40 seconds while turning over the key. Eventually it starts, revs high, turn of the choke, wants to stall, once warm idles good and off we go. Starts good warm. Heaven forbid the battery dies and the young lad isn't 30km out in the bush. He would never be able to pull the chord enough to get it running again. Any ideas? jets are set to 1.5 and .8. 120 compression and plugs are wet if you stop turning it over before it starts, dry after the machine runs and is turned off..... What did I do wrong. Thanks in advance

Sounds like a setting screw is off a bit . I personally have that same carb but did not do the fine setting on it. A buddy did on a 3 hr trail ride when he borrowed it. He tuned it by ear. Mine was doing the same thing before he cleaned it and we changed the fuel pump. I think most of the problem was bad check valve in the pump.
